Studio71 UK has added to its growing slate of podcasts with Mystery on the Rocks, a new comedy podcast that attempts to crack some of the world’s strangest, weirdest and totally unsolved mysteries.
Mystery on the Rocks is the fifth podcast from Studio71 UK and follows the successful Power Hour podcast with international speaker and wellness professional Adrienne Herbert, and F**ks Given with YouTubers Come Curious – both of which have had downloads in six figures since they were launched late last year. The beginning of 2019 also saw the release of three BBC Factual video series from Studio71 UK, including Period Dramas, Fashion Conscious and Sex in Seconds.
Studio71 UK continues the global company’s commitment to producing, developing and distributing diverse and different new formats that aimed at the coveted 18-35 age bracket. Mystery on the Rocks is the first of many new podcasts the company will launch in the UK this year.
The high concept series is set within an old saloon, where the lively conversations of an old detective (played by Chris Stokes), a bartender (Masud Milas) and a down-on-her-luck saloon singer (Sooz Kempner) continue deep into the night. Each episode features a new guest who brings one more legendary mystery to the bar that the unlikely crew attempt to crack such. Mysteries include ‘The Murder of Laetitia Toureaux’, the women killed in an empty carriage on the Paris Metro and ‘The Disappearance of Keith Reinhard’ who disappeared in the Rocky Mountains in ‘spooky’ circumstances.
BBC-backed, award-winning comic and Edinburgh Fringe regular Chris Stokes is the detective that leads the investigations, his bar tab mounting steadily. Of course, it wouldn’t be a real bar without real cocktails which are shaken up by the brilliantly sharp, ‘Time Out’ favourite Masud Milas who pairs each true crime whodunnit with a new cocktail. Funny Women Variety Award and Musical Comedy Award-winner Sooz Kempner completes the trio on vocals and piano, providing the murder mystery medleys.
The series launches today with three episodes starring guests Nick Helm, Jay Foreman and Kemah Bob and will continue with another side-splitting visitor to the bar each week. Upcoming guests include Tez Ilyas, Chris Washington, Sadia Azmat, Will Duggan and more.
Mystery on the Rocks is a Studio71 production, produced by Jack Claramunt and executive produced by Tom Payne and Jody Smith.
