New scripted, formats and factual shows include ‘Vienna Blood’, ‘Departure’, ‘Renovate Don’t Relocate’ and landmark New York Times current affairs series ‘The Weekly’

LONDON. March 26, 2019: Red Arrow Studios International is heading to this year’s MIPTV with a diverse slate of high-profile new shows across scripted, formats and factual, from a host of award-winning creators.

Red Arrow Studios International’s scripted line-up includes new crime drama Vienna Blood (3 x 90’ or 6 x 45’) from acclaimed screenwriter Steve Thompson (‘Deep State’, ‘Jericho’, ‘Sherlock’). Set in 1900s Vienna, a hot bed of philosophy, science and art, the thrilling series is based on the best-selling novels by Frank Tallis and produced by Endor Productions and MR Film, in co-production with Red Arrow Studios International, ZDF Germany and ORF (Austria). Academy Award and Emmy-nominee Robert Dornhelm (‘Anne Frank: The Whole Story’) and Umut Dag (‘Cracks in Concrete’) have directed the series, which stars Matthew Beard (‘The Imitation Game’, ‘And When Did You Last See Your Father?’) and Juergen Maurer (‘Vorstadtweiber’, ‘Tatort’).

Further scripted highlights include Departure (6 x 45’), a high-octane conspiracy thriller about the shock disappearance of Flight 716, starring Emmy Award-winner Archie Panjabi and Academy Award-winner Christopher Plummer. Departure is produced by Shaftesbury and Greenpoint Productions, in association with Corus Entertainment for Global (Canada). Alongside this is Bad Mothers (8 x 45’), a sexy, funny new drama produced by Jungle Entertainment and Filthy Productions for Nine Network (Australia) and TVNZ (New Zealand), about modern women juggling life’s big issues: love, family, careers, infidelity … and murder! Also heading to MIPTV is murder mystery drama The Girl from St. Agnes (8 x 51’), produced by Quizzical Pictures for Showmax (South Africa) which follows the mysterious death of a schoolgirl at an elite boarding school.

From its non-scripted show roster, Red Arrow is bringing landmark New York Times series The Weekly (30 x 27’) to MIPTV, as the series prepares to make its US debut in June. Commissioned by FX in association with Hulu and produced by The New York Times and Left/Right, The Weekly brings the newspaper’s unparalleled journalism and insight to the TV screen, going beyond US and international news to find the big, signature stories that nobody else is telling. The company will also be launching a new factual true crime series The Curse of the Vologne (4 x 45’), a production by Elephant Group for France 3 which tells the extraordinary story of a tragic child murder that continues to haunt France.

Red Arrow’s MIPTV format launches include innovative new home makeover show, Renovate Don’t Relocate. First commissioned by UKTV, the format is created, developed and produced by UK indie Outline Productions and mixes smart technology, design and engaging stories to create a home makeover show that not only transforms homes, but the way they are used.

Alongside this is The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes, a new social experiment format originally co-produced by CPL Productions and Motion Content Group for Channel 4 (UK), in which 14 people living with dementia are tasked with running a professional restaurant; and factual entertainment format Every Family Has a Secret, originally produced by Artemis Media for SBS TV (Australia), which follows ordinary people on life-changing journeys as they explore long-held family secrets, revealing hidden pasts, deceit and lies, and buried scandals. Red Arrow will also launch Next Exit: Love, a fresh new dating format originally produced by Fandango Film for SAT.1 (Germany) which sees two singles, matched by a relationship expert, have a quirky blind date on a car journey, and Diet Wars: Chef Showdown, a weight loss competition produced by RedSeven Entertainment for kabel eins (Germany) that puts leading diets and chefs to the test.

Rounding out the company’s MIPTV formats offering is Beat the Rooms, a crazy, action-packed studio gameshow from Nippon TV for Nippon TV (Japan). Nippon TV is handling sales for Asia, and Red Arrow Studios International has rest of the world rights.
