An inspiring social experiment about the power of music to change the lives of kids
Don’t Stop the Music is an uplifting, heart-warming social experiment and an important social impact campaign all rolled into one. It follows the progress of children from an underprivileged school as a ground- breaking new music program is introduced. With the help of experts, the teachers are trained how to teach music more effectively, and the results have a startling effect on the lives of the kids and their families.
In the show, young students in an underperforming school are given publicly-donated musical instruments, and over several months they get to grips with them both at school and at home. Some take to their instruments immediately, while others need more convincing. A well- known singer and a music educator are on hand to encourage and inspire the kids, workshopping songs one-on-one, and helping to draw the music and talent out of them.
As their confidence grows, and as the school learns to embrace its new musical culture, the positive effects are extraordinary. Disruptive behavior is tempered, serial truants return to the classroom and new opportunities are forged for the kids.
The journey culminates in a spectacular concert, where the fruits of months of practice are put to the test in front of an audience of families, friends – and maybe even a celebrity guest or two!
Don’t Stop the Music is an uplifting show that reveals how music has the power to move us, inspire us and even transform lives.
In the original Australian version for ABC, music star and Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian and music educator Dr. Anita Collins mentor the kids at an underprivileged school in Perth, taking them on the musical journey of a lifetime.
